My tornado alert system
RadioShack® 7-Channel Handheld Weather Radio with SAME
So I bought one of these several years ago and I bought the separate AC adapter. It beeps a lot during setup but once done with setup it will just alarm for only Tornado warnings in your county. You can set it up to alert to every type of warning but you won't sleep much!
Over the last couple of years this setup has performed exceptionally well. It typically alerts 5 to 10 MINUTES before the sirens go off in our area. There have been times we were alerted by the SAME radio watched the tornadic cell pass by and then heard the sirens. I wish I was kidding but trusting the siren system is a bad idea.

Separation from racing
So on my 211 trip through the racecourse at Paoli Peaks randomness caught up to me... I clipped a gate and plowed the mountain with my right shoulder. Acromioclavicular joint injury (Type 3 shoulder separation). So my season is over and now you know why if you see me with my arm in a sling for the next week or so.
I'll be fine... starting PT in two weeks.

NASTAR 2010-2011 Season
203 timed runs through the NASTAR courses this season. I didn't set out with a goal in mind but I'm happy I made 200. Who says you can't snowboard/ski in Southern Indiana. w00t!

Wild weather at Paoli
Went to Paoli for Wednesday night NASTAR expecting it to be very soft. Bank sign in Paoli was showing 66F!!! But the snowpack wasn't hearing any of it... there was a glaze on top and the runs were quite firm. The course was F A S T. Mike P. thank you for yet another great NASTAR night!

Monday night at Paoli
Went to Paoli tonight with my son to just free "ski". It was soft but later firmed up. I took the Donek 169 and it preformed admirably. Got a few ole' skool' comments, sigh.
Had a blast. You could almost feel the end of the season in the air. It goes by so fast.

Not so fast..
Took the slalom (SL) board out for Wednesday night NASTAR. While it provided a lot of control the speed wasn't there. Swapped up for the GS board and dropped 2.75 seconds on the first run.
Ahhhhh... SPEED. :D

RAB modification
Sometimes you come late to the party... No reason you can't enjoy yourself!
I Googled around for RAB mods and came across carver.cc's Spring system modification. I wanted to do a similar thing but simpler with off the shelf parts.
Well I did. One properly sized bearing race, removal of the brass tubing nut and presto! A boot that stands up straighter with the same flex pattern which was essential due to my size (6'4" 245lbs) and that I race a good percentage of the time. (Yes I do use the slightly softer spring set that comes with the Dee Luxe Indys).
It feels soooo much better. W00t!

Morning After
Randomness was in our favor last night with all the rain and the elevated temperatures. I'm sure to our north the situations much more dire.

No more ISPs in Egypt
What Googles doing about this (in ONE weekend!!!):
We worked with a small team of engineers from Twitter, Google and SayNow, a company weacquired last week, to make this idea a reality. It’s already live and anyone can tweet by simply leaving a voicemail on one of these international phone numbers (+16504194196 or +390662207294 or +97316199855) and the service will instantly tweet the message using the hashtag #egypt. No Internet connection is required. People can listen to the messages by dialing the same phone numbers or going to twitter.com/speak2tweet.
We hope that this will go some way to helping people in Egypt stay connected at this very difficult time. Our thoughts are with everyone there.

Some weekend work that will (hopefully) enable more Egyptians to be heard

Like many people we’ve been glued to the news unfolding in Egypt and thinking of what we could do to help people on the ground. Over the weekend we came up with the idea of a speak-to-tweet service—the ability for anyone to tweet using just a voice connection. We worked with a small team of engineers from Twitter, Google and SayNow, a company weacquired last week, to make this idea a reality.
